eve_primeToday's activities were not very remarkable, but I certainly enjoyed myself, and by the end of the day we were all surprisingly worn out. We went on an expedition to Safeway, then drove to the food trucks downtown, which were mostly closed, so we drove to the Rose Garden and parked, walking back all the way to Oakshire Brewery. The menu was entirely hot dogs and other sorts of sausages, which is not my thing so I just chatted. Then we headed back to the Rose Garden, stopping by MSC's house and meeting their 5-week old baby. We looked at the roses but were more interested in the adjacent river. M. was especially interested in getting down to the water, so they went down a steep slope; I went much further to a slope I could manage and eventually met up with them. There was much attempting to skip stones, then we walked further, to the beach, where several of us took off our shoes and waded out across the stones.
Then we headed home and ordered and ate Thai food, joined by D. Afterwards I made a map for M. to find the running trails along Amazon Creek and ended up chatting with her for a full hour, mostly about Bollywood films (she was amazed that I'd seen several classics and recommended three more), her field in math (automorphic representations, which has to do with classifying things), her boyfriend (an accomplished young mathematician) and how bewildering it is to her parents that she has a boyfriend rather than a fiance, the impact of COVID on her family and friends back in India whom she cannot visit, and her career aspirations. She then went off to phone her boyfriend back (she'd let the phone ring while talking with me), and I settled on the couch and chatted with N. a while too. Then she headed off to bed as well - they keep regular-people hours, unlike myself, JM, and J, and for that matter, D.
Tomorrow the four of them are heading to Crater Lake, Oregon's one national park.
