It's so peculiar, being "sick" without being sick. When I woke today, 42 hours after that second Moderna shot, I felt like one feels after having the 'flu - wiped out and wobbly. If I'd really had the 'flu, I'd expect to feel like that the entire day, then hope that another night's sleep would restore me. In any case, I thought I'd better take it easy, so I sat around watching a TV show about the architecture of Nagoya, Japan, and did other light activities - unpacking the Chewy box of cat food cans seemed pretty effortful.

Then I realized we should get our birthday card in the mail for J's sister-in-law, so we signed it, and I got in J's car and drove to the post office (still feeling a bit odd), and then I drove over to the mechanic to pay for the work they'd done on my car and to chat with the guy a while about my options. (He thinks electric cars aren't a sound investment for someone who expects to have their car for 20+ years like I do, as by the time they're 10 years old the battery needs replacement, which costs pretty much the entire value of the car at that point. It would still be gratifying to have one, though.) He has a big, friendly chocolate lab named Callie, and just this week Callie's new puppy Ruger has joined the team - he was very much the same size as Sorin, within a few ounces: 16.5 lbs. (Hm, I see Ruger is a brand of gun.)

Then I came home and waited for J's streamer to finish the Grandia game he'd been so eager to have her play. I went to Safeway for a few things and watered my trees in pots, then when J. was ready we went on a moderately short walk, but that didn't tire me out, and actually my energy level was improving. We then read in his backyard a while, then we ordered from Agate Alley, and just when the food was arriving we rescued a snake that I'd seen Blitzen hunting when I'd left for the post office. It was quite small but very aggressive, making its head look extra-big. J. took photos, and after D. brought out his gardening gloves, J. picked it up and put it in a container so I could relocate it where the cats wouldn't see.

We had a fine dinner and chat with D, then we watched this week's Friday evening movie: The Secret of NIMH. I hadn't realized that it's the very same NIMH for which I'm a co-investigator on a grant (the National Institute of Mental Health), so that was funny. Also, if I can ever see it again, there was one moment where their neighbor Auntie Shrew was running through a puddle and there was a splash of such pretty green and blue that I wished I'd been able to capture it to see it clearly. And by that point my energy level was fine and hasn't diminished for hours - let's hope I can get to sleep at a good time tonight!
