Tonight D. tried driving again, his fourth attempt, but the first in almost three months. Our plan was to go when the Friday evening movie had ended but not later, so that afterwards I'd have enough time to play the Spire with Friends thing with J, which often takes two hours. I'd been a bit concerned that with a bar near the Safeway, there could be intoxicated drivers. What I hadn't taken into account was that at 9:30 pm on a Friday evening, there would be so many other drivers... and with D's lack of practice at keeping the car at a proper speed, some of the other drivers were rather alarmed, thinking he was the intoxicated one.

First, when we turned onto Donald, the car driving behind us slowed down to stay quite a distance back from us. They were probably relieved when we turned off the main road soon. We did pretty well at approaching the various four-way stops slowly enough that the other cars would get there first, but eventually we went through a stop with another car coming right after us, and I suggested to D. that he could pull over to the curb to let it past. He ended up putting the car onto the curb a bit, and the other car pulled beside us and stopped, asking if we were okay. D. couldn't figure out the window mechanism in the dark, but eventually I managed to convey that it was a driving lesson and we were fine.

I spent almost the whole time cracking up with laughter, which is much better than getting too stressed, and which D. fortunately doesn't seem to mind very much.

Other things about my day: I went to the university library and got five books; it's the Friday of spring break and there were literally no other cars on the entire block nearest the library, and I think I only saw four other people in the entire building. I went to the public library and returned some books in the outside slot. I bought potato-leek soup at Market of Choice since they stopped having the beer-cheese, but J. wasn't terribly impressed. Their Discord community's movie was Annihilation, a sci-fi horror film with Natalie Portman, which I didn't really enjoy watching at the time, but which I kind of like in retrospect (it's the book they read in their book club this month). There were some interesting visual effects. Also, D. is currently ranked 84th in the Americas for Hearthstone Arena, which is pretty cool!
