Day 374: An unexpected adventure of sorts
Mar. 24th, 2021 11:12 pmThis afternoon, D. burst out of his room to tell me that his friends JS and MM were in the Walmart on West 11th, in line to get the vaccine from the day's surplus, and that there were 10 spaces still open! We thought it was unlikely that we'd be on time, but the three of us jumped in J's car and headed toward the store. We were two-thirds of the way there when she texted to say the supply was done for the day. But they did get their vaccines. I guess they'd been driving all around town asking at pharmacies? Anyway, she says that one can phone Walmart around 2:30 pm to ask about their no-shows for the day, and to find out if they'll be administering any leftover doses, and then rush over to be in line. It's six-and-a-half miles away, and J's work day would be interrupted, but it's do-able. I'll probably start calling them at 2:30 on days when no one has commitments between 3 and 6 or so. I hope we won't have to stand around for hours.
(D's girlfriend got vaccinated a few days ago, because she'd worked at the university's childcare center in the past and they had her on their list. I'm sure D's eager to get to spend time with his friends, now that the three he's closest to have already gotten the first dose. J's very eager also. I'm looking forward to being vaccinated, but I'm in no rush.)
I was quite tired today, especially after we got back, and I have a sore throat and noisy cough. I hope it's all just from pollen plus overdoing things exercise-wise yesterday and work-wise the two days before.
Meanwhile, this evening, Skelly was again on my doorstep, looking perkier than the last time I saw him! He's still extra-scruffy - he's a beautiful, long-haired cat - but maybe he's just got a cat-cold or something? I was surprised to see him at all.
