This was our book club book, and the author is a friend of the woman who chose the book and even plans to attend the book club meeting, tomorrow. She's an expert on elephants and has spent a lot of time with them in Africa.
Unfortunately, I didn't think it was very well-written, in general, and there were a few mistakes that bugged me - at least one of her historical examples was wrong, she used "nonplussed" to mean "indifferent," etc. I did learn a useful lesson from reading the book, though - if you're going to have chapters on different themes, try to avoid listing lots of examples of each theme. I'll have to make sure to follow that lesson when I write.
Two of the chapters were just great, though. The one on grief was fascinating, moving, and informative, and the one on play was also pretty interesting.
