Day 341: Rainy Friday
Feb. 19th, 2021 11:49 pmToday I got up early (by my standards) for Ashleigh's dissertation defense. She'll go far in the world, so I'm spelling out her entire first name *laugh*. It's on genocide prevention. One of her committee members is Jim Finkel, who will be invaluable for networking as she looks for a job in the field. She's run several related events here in Eugene; I got to help a bit (since we're both in G's lab and working on her research topic together) and I got to have dinner with the group, too.
I tried to nap, but nope, though my brain was fuzzy all day. J. and I went on a short walk in the rain, then he ordered dinner for us from Agate Alley Bistro, and D. joined us for dinner and conversation.
After that, it was time for the Friday evening movie, and this week they'd voted for Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey. I thought I would like it more than I did. The main character, voiced by Michael J. Fox, was pretty obnoxious, as was the cat; the only characters I really liked were the golden retriever and a scientist who lived in a cabin and rescued the cat after she'd gone down a waterfall.
After that, J. watched Magic streaming, and I read, with a half-hour break when we went to sit in the hot tub. Too bad it had stopped raining then; it's more interesting to be in the hot tub when there's weather happening.
(I should note that unlike most of the United States, which is covered with snow and having all manner of stressful problems, it's fine here - rainy and highs in the 50s.)
