Day 315: Symphony
Jan. 24th, 2021 11:55 pmToday was the Santa Rosa Symphony's January concert, pretty much a three-hour event when you count the pre-concert talk and the post-concert interviews. The pieces were: Webern's adaptation of Bach's mu, Ellen Taaffe Zwilich's Concerto Grosso 1985 for Chamber Orchestra [after Handel], Marianna Martines' Sinfonia in C-major (she was a contemporary of Haydn and Mozart), and Mozart's 39th symphony.
So that was all grand fun, and although a week ago I didn't have much interest in the Mozart piece, I'm now a big fan - greater familiarity and Thursday's closer examination worked their magic for me again.
Then, after dinner, J. and I tried a new game, Paradise Killer. It's an open-world murder mystery game, which is the "game of the month" (along the lines of a book club) for a Discord channel he enjoys. It was a very strange scenario, though not inherently unpleasant. I thought the cheap jazzy soundtrack was inherently unpleasant, though, along with the 3D world - even though it didn't make me acutely nauseous at any given point (unlike some 3D games), the cumulative effect was pretty unfortunate. It's four hours later and I still haven't recovered - I trust sleep will fix it. After maybe 45 minutes of that, we switched back to Hades, an all-around superior game. J. will probably continue the other on his own.
Oh! When we went to Safeway, the clerk told us there'd been snow on the ground in the morning. I so seldom see the outside world in the morning and had no clue.
