Day 308: Changes of plans
Jan. 17th, 2021 11:50 pmToday we were looking forward to DG/AA coming over and hanging out with us in the garage, maybe also going for a walk with us so we could show them the neighborhood park. J got up early and made chex mix, which he's personally so fond of, because he wanted to share it with them and had been planning to do so for months, even buying some mild olive oil so it could be vegan. Unfortunately, an hour before their expected arrival, DG had to cancel, as his boss had sent him a bunch of work.
J. and I took the walk through the park, which was fine except that so many others had the same idea - not ideal. Then we trimmed wayward branches from my scarlet oak tree, a task we'd saved for a mild, dry day in winter, which it was (though personally, once it's past New Year's I tend to think of it as "not quite spring" rather than "winter," if that makes sense). Then I showered, etc., then had to change my plans again, as J. was napping; I had to go to Safeway on my own this time, and I guess we're going back later in the week. Then, one more change of plans - D. was going to S's to share some delivered food, so no Sunday spaghetti today. I made Lebanese meatballs and watched the first episode of the new version of All Creatures Great and Small. Later in the evening, we played more Hades and had another major plot resolution; at this point there are probably only a few minor, known activities to complete.
Also today, I listened to several music things - the Ricercar by Bach that Francesco had taught us about on Thursday, and the Webern adaptation, and then a cool version with visual effects that makes it easier to follow the main theme. Also I listened to a talk by Delgani's cellist about the Hovhaness and Stravinsky pieces they'll be performing at the next concert.
