This black comedy is the story of the wreakage an extremely beautiful young woman with the odd name of Undine Spragg makes of others' lives as she thoughtlessly social climbs to her heart's content. Undine has almost no inner life, only wanting attention and the ability to spend however much money she may want.
I don't think I'd read any full novels by Edith Wharton before. This one was for the New York Times book club. It was entertaining, but we spent so much time in Undine's empty head that I soon concluded it wasn't the best bedtime reading.
