Another low-key day, as I wasn't feeling well. [livejournal.com profile] fractal9091 and I spent the afternoon at Tugman Park, our neighborhood park. First we watched dragonflies near the creek: big, dark ones that swooped over the lawn, small red ones and a few blue, and some fancier ones, like twelve-spotted skimmers and one that had a pale blue-white body and just one big black spot on each wing. J. got the best pictures, and I'll post one later. We then settled under a big ash tree to read (This Immortal by Zelazny for J. and Under the Tuscan Sun for me, a lovely book but not like the movie). Three crows harassed us a while then finally left. We talked with my mom, out for her afternoon walk to count the waterskippers in the creek beneath the southern footbridge.

Around 5 p.m. we walked back and I grilled up some dinner, lemon chicken sausages with butterfly pasta. D. was off at F's house, and R. showered and joined them for a while, so J. and I kept reading. After the others had come home and eaten too, J. played basketball with D. a while and also threw him a few pitches, one of which was hit hard over J's shoulder and got stuck in the akebia vine on the fence! In the evening we watched King Arthur, which postulated that Arthur's knights were actually conscripted cavalry from Sarmatia assigned to Hadrian's Wall. Curiously, I have a novel by Gillian Bradshaw (Island of Ghosts) about Sarmatian knights assigned to the Wall. Then we watched Futurama (the penguin episode), Elimidate (ha ha), and Inuyasha (an anime cartoon; this episode was about a flesh-eating Noh mask).
