My vacation begins

fractal9091 is now in Phoenix, barely awake as he stayed up all night, and will be here in a few hours. Like last fall, I won't be posting about our days in the evenings, most likely, but rather, the next morning.
Meanwhile, last night I got caught up with Tom Y, whom I've known since he was 15 or so and who is now about a year away from finishing his physics doctorate at U.C. Berkeley. Ha, I just found a picture. Anyway, Tom and one of his fellow grad students created the world's smallest synthetic motor, using carbon nanotubes, and got a writeup in Nature! They were on Australian TV too.
