"Dinner and a movie"
Jul. 9th, 2005 11:23 pmA bit livelier today, a bit less bewildered. I spent most of the day relaxing, though, alternating reading bits of Blue Adept by Piers Anthony (a Christmas present from
fractal9091) and Changing Minds: The Art and Science of Changing Our Own and Other People's Minds by Howard Gardner (nowhere near as rigorous as I'd like, or rather, written in too popular a style, but still interesting, I guess).
In the late afternoon, the two boys came back from touring wineries and a cider place (cidery? hmm, no) and we all went down to Chef's Kitchen for dinner -- our neighborhood Swiss/PNW restaurant specializing in seafood. So for appetizers we had a plate of hummus and pita, and also Funghi in Pergatorio, which was chanterelles and an onion tomato sauté baked with cheese. Then I had Plum Curried Halibut, DH had Filet Rôti Rossini (filet mignon with foie gras and madeira sauce), R. had the Wienerschnitzel mit Spätzle (made with chicken and a caper sauce), huge servings all, with elaborate and generous garnishes. D. had pasta and fresh fruit, mostly plums, but we ate most of that too. Desserts were a berry cream cake for DH, a toffee torte for R., and chocolate ice cream with chocolate syrup for D. We ate outside and enjoyed the songbirds who kept flying under the canvas "roof" then back out into their nests in the red cedars.
"Plum Curried Halibut: broiled fresh fillet over a mild cassis curry -- fresh plum chutney and shrimp":

Afterwards, I finally indulged my daydream of walking home from this restaurant after dining there, which was a nice stroll through the park but not quite what I'd imagined (neither summer-sultry enough nor close enough to twilight). We then watched Adaptation, a curious and engaging movie, which I am quite certain would have been better without all those Oxygen channel commercials.
