Steam-cleaning day
Jul. 3rd, 2005 09:11 pmToday was our annual steam-cleaning of the carpet, a time of household renewal, that it is indeed. Still an amazing amount of work to do, though. In the late afternoon I found a dry patch of carpet and sat there for two hours watching the rest of North & South, which was really a lovely dramatization, though I do have one complaint: It would have been nice if they'd varied the background theme music a bit more. Not so bad for the first hour or so, but by the fourth hour in two days it was getting pretty tiresome.
For lunch, D. and I had a baguette-and-havarti picnic out on the lawn. Today I also read two chapters in Kim, watched a bunch of Pirates of the Caribbean, and read the first few pages of a new book about the battle of Salamis (480 BCE, the one that kept the Persians out of Greece).
D. has decided to become king of England, by the way.
And happy birthday to my Grandma Nonny, who is now 92.
