A day out, and a day in

eve_primeToday the boys went to the Day Out With Thomas event at Mt. Hood Railroad, which is quite a ways from here, about an hour inland from Portland. D. is no longer the all-consuming fan of Thomas the Tank Engine as he once was but was nevertheless thrilled and wore his Mr. Conductor cap and vest all day. Here he is, seated in one of Thomas's coaches, ready for a ride up the mountain:
Meanwhile, I did a fair amount of work and even put the Christmas tree away (yes...) in anticipation of tomorrow's steam-cleaning but then got sidetracked when I discovered that BBC America was showing a dramatization of North and South, the Elizabeth Gaskell novel about the 19th century culture clash between pastoral southern England and the industrialized north. It concludes tomorrow (and now I'm sorely tempted to reread the book).
