A new year!

Happy New Year, everyone! We had a quiet New Year’s Eve. J had been interested in going to the tidepools for one of the two days in the year when there’s an afternoon low tide, but tomorrow it will be raining there, and today DG had to work and couldn’t join him. (D suffers motion sickness on the drive to the coast, so he wasn’t interested either; I hope he’ll be able to keep his motion sickness at that level rather than getting worse like mine did.) Anyway, so J stayed home and made chex mix. I did a few errands then went to his house once the chex mix smell had diminished a bit, and eventually we made our nice fondue. Then I read a bunch, he played a video game that’s mildly amusing to watch, and at midnight we toasted each other – him with eggnog and me with water. Such fuddy-duddies! We heard fireworks and went upstairs to look out the window, but the sound was coming from the north, and as he put it, his house “doesn’t believe in north” (there are no windows facing that direction).

Quiet New Year's celebrations are the best!

I guess my house also doesn't believe in north. That's a nice phrase. (The too-close neighbor's house is the only thing to see if there were north windows, so I'm actually glad we don't have any.)

Ha, that's like my south windows - nothing to look at except the neighbors' house maybe 10' away. Since J's house is the only two-story house among many one-story houses, it might be a nice northern view - or it might just be a matter of roofs and the small hill at the end of the street. But we'll probably never know!
