Winnings and concerts
May. 6th, 2024 02:37 amToday D won $2000 playing Magic! Every so often, roughly once a month I guess, they have a two-day event online, where if you do well enough on Day 1, you can play on Day 2, and if you do well enough on Day 2, you can win between $500 and $2000. So yesterday he went 7-0, and today he won $2000! He did very well under pressure, too, because he lost the first round altogether (too many lands versus spells), and then in each of the following rounds he lost the first game but won the other two. Pretty exciting!
Meanwhile, J was doing sword-fighting at that downtown pub where they pay him with a nice lunch, and some of his former coworkers showed up to watch, so that was fun for him.
I had the online Delgani concert to watch at 3 pm, and the Motet Singers concert in person at 4 pm, so I just watched a little bit of Delgani before I left. I hadn't finished watching Kim's one-hour pre-concert talk about the Janacek string quartet (about which I was not enthusiastic), but when Delgani started, we were told that actually, due to Kim's long Covid problems, playing the Janacek was making her ill. Yikes! So the first half was going to be various solos and duets, then the expected Schubert piece afterwards. I watched a bit of that then drove to Central Lutheran for the Motets. They sang 20 pieces: 10 in English, 6 in Latin, and one each in Italian, French, Czech, and Basque. All of it was very pretty.
