J and C had a fun Saturday - they took the Underground to the Tower of London, explored it, then did a boat tour of the Thames, then walked around near the Eye, then visited St James Park - then returned to their hotel north of Hyde Park and ate dinner (lasagna and a dessert). The hotel room was too warm for Jonathan to sleep very well, but that helped him get up early, and they took an Uber to Euston Station for the train to Crewe then Conwy, Wales.

Unfortunately, there are problems with the electrical wires along the routes from Euston, so they had to walk to St Pancras station and come up with alternatives. Right now they're on the train to Derby, and from there they'll either go to Crewe and then to Conwy, or to Birmingham then Shrewsbury then Conwy, although the connection in Shrewsbury has only an 11-minute window. I'll be sleeping then, surely!

Meanwhile, back here in Oregon... D passed his driving test! He'll go to the DMV on Monday and wait in interminable lines and see about getting his license. They moved a table into the apartment, and in the evening they went to a game night party hosted by a friend. Not very much packing happened today but I guess it's not urgent.

I walked down to the neighborhood park for the annual official neighborhood picnic, strolled past all of the booths (almost entirely about environmental issues and nature, and only two for health/social services), and listened to a band of people older than me playing hippie folk-rock - the Daydream Derby, I think they were called. I watched Babylon 5 with the group of Babylon 5 watchers, then was going to watch the Ducks football game but urgh it wasn't televised this week either, so I ended up watching Star Wars. It was about equally good as a football game for background action while I'm reading the week's newpapers and sorting the junk mail.

I really didn't expect to spend so much time looking at the British Rails website tonight - about two hours at this point! I think they should just trust the people in Derby to advise them how best to get to Conwy.
