Since we had two weddings (a marriage ceremony and a bigger social event later), we get to have two anniversaries! Today was the first anniversary of our bigger wedding, and we celebrated by having dinner with our friends DG and JC at the Bier Stein, before they all went off to play Magic for the evening. (D and DG were the winners.) I did lots of fine things in the evening, including reading outside with cats and a walk when it got cooler. After J returned, we watched two episodes of season two of By the Grace of the Gods, then opened our second Year of Sanderson book, which is, after all, a wedding gift as we bought it with the money his parents gave us.

Today is also my 11th anniversary of defending my dissertation, and my Grandma Nonnie's 110th birthday, although she "only" made it through about 95 of them.

Today was fun. J and DG played Magic a whole bunch online, as D had also done earlier in the day before going to work, and DG won $500, so he decided to treat us for dinner. And since AA is off doing dog-sitting, DG was up for trying the Highlands, which is in the same shopping center as the Safeway and so only about two blocks away. (There doesn't seem to be anything vegan on their menu for AA, hence his delay in trying it, even though it's the restaurant closest to the house they bought a year ago.) So we all walked over there and sat outside, figuring out how to crank up the big red parasols over the tables to get enough shade, and we had a nice dinner together.

On our way home, we stopped in the Safeway to say hi to D, but he was on a break. His fun coworker A, to whom I'd recommended Hester, had looked it up and found two books by that name - so I just dashed home and brought back our copy to lend to her. Then DG went home to enjoy indoor air conditioning, while J and I went out to his backyard to enjoy breezy, shaded heat. It was lovely, and we read outside for a couple of hours. Well, I did - he started their new book club book and lost patience, as it's apparently very slow.

Then he thought it was too cold and dark to go work on the fence we needed to stabilize (the one behind his house is falling down, and there's nobody living on the other side to help). I pointed out that it was still plenty light outside for reading and it was *ahem* 82 degrees, so hardly cold. I think he was influenced by having just eaten an ice cream sandwich. So I put my book down mid-chapter and we went out and fixed the fence, hurrah. This involved walking around to the other side (which is about six blockx away) to nail a strip of wood across the gap then back to his side to add a few more nails. If it falls down this year, it won't be this section. So we actually finished something on the do-list for the day, too.
