Four hours of fun!
Apr. 29th, 2015 09:54 pmThis afternoon I had to go downtown to get D's May bus pass, so I also went to the library for a new haul of books. I picked up the second and fourth in the Queen's Thief series (which I see
thefolksinger is also reading!), then I saw there's a new Princess Academy book, so I got that as well. I then left the kids' section and picked up two mysteries that I expect to be rather brutal, along with Gaudy Night, which I want to read again after the discussion here, and I have no idea where my copy is.
That right there was enough to make today a great day! But since it's Wednesday, D's afternoon and dinner with R, J. and I decided to meet downtown for dinner and videogaming. First, we went to Shoryuken League, a sort of videogame bar, but the guy discouraged us from eating their all-fried foods, and we ended up at a sunny table outside the Taphouse. J. had a pulled pork sandwich and an apricot hard cider, and I had pulled pork nachos. It was a really cheerful location, beneath a young sycamore tree with little twittery birds, and half a block from some street musicians.
Then we went back to Shoryuken League and I finally got to try one of the Katamari games, which definitely match my sense of fun, especially the whimsy in the scripted bits. We shared a controller and passed it back and forth. Every so often I noticed that my mouth was hanging open, it was that fun. We also learned that some couches there are in better shape than others, and some music is louder than others -- I could hardly hear ours over the Mega Man game two console stations away.
Then, leaving J. to play more "Katamari Forever" (and, as it turned out, fifty levels of something called "Magic Sword"), I went to D's jazz band practice and listened to him doing great on the saxophone.
So, four continuous hours of fun! Plus, tonight D. and I get to finish Athyra, the sixth Vlad Taltos book, and I get to submit a manuscript.
