After several days of puzzling over a bright star where it shouldn't be, wondering why my mom's old star chart didn't have that recently arisen and interesting configuration of four stars all in a line, the leftmost one the brightest, suddenly tonight it occurred to me. Three of the stars lined up were the ones I expected, the ones making the forehead in Scorpius, and the red star Antares was down below them as always, which made that bright one... Saturn. Planets are up there too, and not to be identified with a star chart from the 1940s. I feel silly.
