This was great bedtime reading for the past few days, when I was mildly ill; I've read it several times before. It's basically a Regency novel in letters between two characters, with magic. Kate has gone to London for the Season, while her cousin Cecy stayed home in Essex - there are balls to dress for and attend, difficult family members, aggravating yet handsome gentlemen to become involved with, and sorcerers to thwart. It's very fun. One of the best things about it was the way it was written - the authors each wrote the letters for one of the two main characters, and they alternated sending each other the letters, basically making up the story by responding to what the other had said and adding their own creations. Although they discussed the characters in person quite a bit while writing the story, they never discussed the plot. And then, when the story was done, they realized that by tidying up a bit they actually had written a full novel between them! I'll be rereading the two sequels soon as well, I'm sure.
