Ashland, etc.
Jun. 11th, 2014 11:19 pmToday was the annual 7th/8th grade trip to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, which is 3+ hours away by bus, in Ashland (near the California border). They had a picnic lunch, then they saw “The Tempest,” then they wandered around Ashland, then they had dinner. D. spent nearly all of his dinner money on a rather attractive musical tie (iridescent musical notes of various colors on a black background), so he just ate frozen yogurt and a lot of skittles. (He bought himself a tie!!!)
Meanwhile, since he wasn’t arriving until 9:45 p.m., J. and I got to go out to dinner near our offices. We ate at McMenamin’s, which had plenty of room even with the NCAA track & field championships going on a block away. J. had a french dip sandwich with turkey instead of roast beef (the “Portland dip”), and the beverage we came there for, the Ninkasi Terminator Stout + chocolate milkshake. I had a fancy burger with mushrooms and cheddar and onions and peppers, and a bowl of curried lentil soup. The sky was clear, the sun was setting, and the moon was full – a beautiful near-summer evening!
