Blah, silly car accident
Aug. 6th, 2013 11:08 pmI zipped over to the UO library this afternoon to renew some books, but when I pulled out of my parking space to head home, a student driving a rental car did the same thing on the opposite side of the street, and basically side-swiped my car in reverse. Given which part of his car hit my car, it seems clear to me that I was in the street first, but I don’t know if it matters. He was not insured – why do rental companies let people rent cars without insurance, I wonder? Anyway, that car got scraped and dinged and a smashed tail light, while my car basically got a repetition and extension of the driver’s side scrape it received (when parked! hit and run!) three years ago. The scrape is now 4' long, and the mirror is much more askew than it was before, such that now it doesn’t even show anything useful. I should try to deal with the mirror, but other than that I guess the car is still functional. Blah.
Then later I got my hair caught in the vacuum cleaner, but I was able to pull it back out without any real harm done, other than momentary fright. Blah.
Every summer I wait impatiently for the pollen to finally end in July, and every summer I’m dismayed that I still feel unwell after that. In some ways I feel worse – my sinuses bother me in the night, interrupting my sleep, such that I have to sit upright a while and drink some water before I can go back to bed. Most years there’s wildfire smoke and ash in late summer, which I’ve blamed in the past. I’m not aware of any wildfires yet this year, but still my windshield gets covered with particulates, and I wonder if that’s it. Or if it’s just that the interior dust build-up in my bedroom is worse in late summer. Anyway, today I decided to tackle the latter project. I took all of the papers out of my bedroom (it’s also my chaotic home office) and did lots of dusting and vacuuming, and I went out and bought an air purifier, which I’ve been running in there for hours, hoping to remove the renegade dust from the air before bedtime. I sure hope it helps.
