Silverfish excitement!
May. 2nd, 2013 08:21 pmMy friend and neighbor T’s younger son E, in 4th grade, has been an entomologist-in-the-making for as long as I’ve known him (as in, before kindergarten), with a particular enthusiasm for mantises. As I mentioned on Saturday, he’s been circulating a new wish list, and when D. pointed out a silverfish on the wall this morning, he reminded me that it was on E’s list. Just in time, too, since silverfish are one of the bugs I am far more likely to squish than to relocate outside (along with ants and earwigs), and it would not have been long for this world. So I put it in a cup, and 8 hours later when E. was likely to be home from school, I texted T. about it. E. then pretty much ran out their door with a mason jar, arriving at my house (two blocks away) nearly instantaneously, and he was absolutely thrilled with his new pet. I really got a kick out of it. Even now, hours later, it still puts a grin on my face.
