A farewell to first grade
Jun. 15th, 2007 09:51 pmPretty spacy today, I think from pollen (460 this morning, then winds stirred it up). I got to D's school too late for field day but was in the classroom for the "final circle" of Anne's 37-year teaching career. She gave each of the children a Costa Rican coin to remind them always about how far they can go in life, and she talked about how special they are and what they've meant to her, and all us moms in the back of the room got teary. Afterwards, many hugs.
Then we went to the school picnic - not many families had gone, but D's best friend was there. I sat on the slightly damp grass and read more of Miss Mapp. At one point, a big blue damselfly came and rested on my page for a bit. Sourdough baguette and havarti - simple and delicious.
