Once Upon a Crime, by P.J. Brackston. This is the first in the series, which I inexplicably read after the second. Gretel is all grown up and a private investigator, in 1776 Bavaria. Our friend N. had enjoyed them, especially the audio narration. (I prefer paper.) These books are very popular, and I can see their appeal, to some extent, except as Gretel is marginally a sociopath I am not enthusiastic. I also didn't enjoy the anti-cat theme, obviously. I might read the others at some point, though.
