D's been sleeping in 'til 9:30 a.m. or so, for most of the summer. Last week he got the sensible idea of setting his alarm and getting up 15 minutes earlier every day 'til he reaches 6:30 a.m., his normal school year bedtime. (School starts on the 8th.) So every day he's been waking up earlier and earlier... and turning his alarm off and going back to sleep.

Today, though, success! He got up at 7 a.m. and started his day. By the time I got up, though, he had a headache, which he attributed to the fact that he was irritating himself by talking to himself nearly non-stop. I started working, and at noon I peeked into his room to find him sound asleep on his bed. He napped for well over two hours, and when he did wake up, both the headache and babbling were cured.

At bedtime tonight, I told him, just keep your alarm at 7 a.m. for another night, don't set it even earlier. "But why?" he protested - "I did get up at 7 a.m. today!" Silly child.
