eve_primeAfter work, I collected the (unrepaired) Volvo from the mechanic and moved it about a mile, though it spluttered to a stop after four blocks and then tried that trick again a few blocks later. I then had to walk back to my car, and I’d already done quite enough walking for the day, so I was pretty worn out when I got home.
D, however, had continued our earlier activity of trying to find his Game Crazy gift card, as there was a game he particularly wanted to buy. Over the course of the day we had between us hunted for at least a couple hours for it, and then I thought to call the store and ask if they could look it up somehow... and learned that since it’s part of Hollywood Video, the store was closing forever in three hours! (And they’d already switched off nearly all of their gift card maintenance software).
But! Half an hour later (which included a break to have to look for Lillian, who had again gotten out the back door and under the deck), I found it, and we headed to Game Crazy. They didn’t have the game he’d wanted, but his $40 in credit got him two Wii games, three PS2 games, and a DS case cover – and the final game we found was one he was very excited to get, Thrillville. He was right, it’s really not too disorienting to “ride” a rollercoaster via PS2, but it still wouldn’t be my choice of activities. We also went to three other stores and bought a new bouncy ball, some rubber cement to try to fix the old one, and a lot of fruit (comfort food for frazzled me).
I kept telling myself that although everything was taking far more effort than I'd expected, each activity was turning out okay. I was sure glad to get home and sink into my outdoor chair to read more of The Gabriel Hounds. Christy has just smuggled her handsome cousin into their excessively eccentric great-aunt’s seraglio.
