Last day of fourth grade

Given that I’m mildly sick, I was remarkably active today. First, I spent more than two hours on my feet at D’s school’s Field Day, which was quite entertaining to watch (I had no idea D. was so talented with the hula hoop), and I had good conversations with other parents and D’s teacher. As soon as we got home, we walked down to the neighborhood park to meet up with most of the fourth grade families for snacks and socializing. D. and the other boys joined the girls in the thick grass near the creek for what he insisted on calling a “Gender War,” and I ate cheez-its and fruit. Directly after we walked home again, we collected his friend S. for opening day at our neighborhood private pool. The water was fairly cold, but I did spend some time in it – last summer I was so busy reading for my prelim paper that I didn’t make it into the pool ’til September.
I got precious little work done, though. Starting tomorrow, I want to come up with a productive summer routine.
