A fine day

Today went quite well, in most respects. I didn't feel as achy as yesterday, and the weather continues to be beautiful (sunny, 72°). D. spent half the day visiting one of his best friends, and the other half with the other, and it was quiet here. In the morning, I joined the many people in our neighborhood cemetery - I took roses to my late step-dad Arnold, his first wife Margaret, and a one-time boyfriend of my friend "Marie," Tim C. I bought groceries and found a cache of useful papers, and when D. finally came home, we went to see the wildflowers at Edgewood School. Then, when R. got home from work, we had a proper Memorial Day dinner: grilled hotdogs on sourdough buns, watermelon wedges, potato chips, and spicy nacho doritos.
Today I got my best photos ever of cat's ears (calochortus), which is one of my all-time favorites. Also, I got some unusual-colored iris tenax, an uncommon orchid, and even an endangered species!
Cat's ears:

From the side (it's a lily):

Nootka rose, which is the main wild rose of western Oregon:

One of several very common vetches:

This is an endangered species, Bradshaw's lomatium. I hadn't seen one before (or rather, I hadn't known I was seeing such a thing at the time, and I still wouldn't have if it hadn't been described in a newspaper article recently). Not very remarkable-looking:

About 10 years ago, R. and I found an orchid at a particular spot, and I hadn't seen it since. Today, not only did I find another at the original spot, but D. spotted a dozen more of them right across the trail! I don't know what kind they are:

A grey squirrel on the move, when we were en route to the orchid:

Usually the local wild iris, iris tenax, is either light or dark purple, like this one surrounded by a lot of healthy poison oak:

But today I found a white one!

And then, to my great surprise, a pale yellow one! I realize that in the photo, it looks basically the same color as the white one:

So that was fun.
