This afternoon I excavated the fossils and thunderegg that mark Sappho's resting place - they were hidden by many years of spruce needles, but I think I've got them all. R. is going to add a layer of soil there. Then I dug up the 'Sparrieshoop' rose, which is in the direct path of the new fence. I don't know if I got enough of the roots to save it, but it's better than not trying.
