Mother's Day

eve_primeUnder the circumstances, the day went pretty well, I thought, but...
B. came down from Portland yesterday, but with a full-blown case of influenza. It's been nice having him around, but D. ignored express cautions and did lame things like pressing his nose onto B's - urgh.
So for today I had a three-fold plan. First my mom came over for brunch, and we watched a Nova episode on a topic that's near to her heart: the decoding of the Mayan writing system. After she left, I had the plan of watching Balls of Fury, which R. and I were envisioning as a sort of cross between Dodgeball and Shaolin Soccer - but we did watch it, and it was so not that. Finally, I'd been hoping B. would give me the 50 Movie Pack: Warriors collection, a really fun-looking batch of "toga flicks," mostly from the early 1960s, with titles like Hercules and the Tyrants of Babylon, Thor and the Amazon Women, and Ursus in the Valley of the Lions, and he did! And I wanted us all to watch Goliath and the Dragon with dinner, but, alas, neither our new DVD player nor the PS2 could play these apparently Region 0 DVDs, so I'll just be watching them on the laptop, I guess. Also, I seem to have a headache/digestive sort of virus, so I couldn't do anything very active outside.
Overall, though, I'm in a good mood, everyone was fun to be around, and I had a good time. I also read some really interesting articles on cross-cultural moral psychology, which I'll share later (and yes, yes, I've moved closer towards sharing Lakoff's talk and J's travel photos).
