Rescued our dogwood tree, or rather, gave it a last chance to survive. It was slated to be taken out when we redo the backyard, and now it is in a pot between my strawberries and the tomato bed. The poor dogwood had never thrived, thanks to the strangling root system of the cottonwood (which had other virtues), and then its shapely form got smashed during the dramatic removal of the cottonwood, and really there's not much hope for it, but I think it's best to be fair and let it try.
Watched a raccoon cautiously cross Willamette St. (in the dark, in the rain). Twice it dashed back into the bushes, but the third time was a success. (I was out on a walk.)
Identified four library books that can go back right away, and another nine or ten that can go as soon as I've photocopied the best bits.
Watched High Society (an old favorite, with Grace Kelly, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and a lot of humor), the second half of a trashy Science Channel show called Humanzee, and the first half of Michael Palin's perverse travelogue of the Baltic states (Estonia = firewalking; Latvia = leech treatments).
