Today's my birthday. Not a prime number, but the next will be. At least clerks still do a double-take when deciding whether to card me. We're all under the weather, so it was the most low-key birthday ever, but still nice.

Gifts. B. gave me the Loeb Greek Bucolic Poets (mostly Theocritus), which has been on my wish list for ages. R. gave me that Ents, Elves, and Eriador: The Environmental Vision of J.R.R. Tolkien that I'd posted about finding at the library a few weeks ago. He also gave me an intriguing book, The Shape of Ancient Thought: Comparative Studies in Greek and Indian Philosophies by Thomas McEvilley, and three CDs: Wolcum Yule by Anonymous 4, The Celtic Fiddle Festival, and my favorite David Munrow album, The Pleasures of the Royal Courts, which is troubadour and other court music from the 1200s to 1600s. Then, my fanciest gift, a 5" polished sphere of rhodonite from the gem show! The mineral is pink with veins of black and silver, and it weighs more than eight pounds. So beautiful.

Usually R. and I go to the nearest wooded hill and look for the fairy ring on my birthday, but today we just sat around, and D. coughed a lot, and R. napped and felt sick. After the presents I watched TV: travel shows of Istanbul and Cairo, and I looked at [livejournal.com profile] shoeless_girl's photos from Turkey and [livejournal.com profile] abbzug's Halloween photos of little Z. Then R, B. and I played Settlers of Catan, and I won! And then I had a huge surprise... a box arrived from [livejournal.com profile] abbzug, with Barbara Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle inside! Wow! I started reading it right away. After B. left, I played some Warcraft III variants with [livejournal.com profile] fractal9091 (I'm glad he fixed his laptop Windows yesterday). Dinner was from that nice Iraila's again, and we watched some football (with Ohio State's loss, Oregon will be #2!). And now I'm hanging out online with [livejournal.com profile] fractal9091 while he watches anime. A nice day! I wonder which of my CDs I should listen to first?
