How do you like the Forsytes? I was curious so I started reading the book, the saga, but as of reading a few chapters, it's confusing as they changed the story a little. I am looking forward to the next episode as I'm caught up to last Sunday.

Well, it's hard to follow who-is-who, and I'm still not clear on the brothers who are the dads of the two main men. It's pretty to look at, though. I can't yet trust that there won't be some tragedy, so I'm not watching quite as eagerly as I might if I already knew the story. Also, about the changes - during the pledge drive I watched a PBS special that interviewed many of the people involved, and the director and others explained that they are focusing more on the women. So I think there will be at least a few changes for that purpose. Overall, I'm not sure if I like it yet...

I see that the author of the saga won the Nobel Prize for the books, so they must be considered very good!

Yes, I do appreciate what PBS has done as women in history and their influence has been so ignored. So although I do like it, even though it doesn't have the depth of Downton Abbey, I would like to understand the book better. That link might help me.

I didn't make time to read that link today, as I'd intended, but I did learn that my favorite character in the TV series wasn't even in the books! So if I'm going to read any of the books, I think I'll wait to do that until they're done televising it, or at least done for now.

I loved the adaptation with Richard Chamberlain, from I think the 1970s, but I hadn't watched or read any of it since then. J read the book last year (or the year before?), so it's fun for him to see a dramatization; he hadn't known the story before he'd read it.
