We had an anime event at the fairgrounds today, with lots of English voice actors, and with a Magic tournament that qualified its winner for one of the fall regional championships. J, D, and DG all went to play in that, in the morning. It was supposed to be a regular event from which the top 8 players then would play in a top 8 draft, but the event was poorly publicized, and only 6 people showed up! Two of the judges played so the event could even happen. Since DG was already qualified for the fall event, he conceded to J in round two, then J and D played in the finals, and D won. Considering how much work they’ve gone through to qualify for these things in the past, this one was easy!
I still have a considerable allergy headache, so I just showed up for 45 minutes or so in the afternoon, when J was eating with DG, AA, and some of AA’s friends; D&S had gone offsite to eat so I missed them. I also glanced through the booths (mostly art), listened very briefly to a panel, and walked past the voice actors who each had their own table. Eric Vale was the most famous of them, but he wasn’t at his table. Kaiji Tang had by far the longest line; I didn’t even know who he was. George Newburn was being neglected at his table; I don’t think of him as a voice actor. Anyway, I got a nice conversation and signed picture of Sesshomaru with voice actor David Kaye, who also wished me a happy Mother’s Day.
