Magic prerelease and symphony trivia

This weekend they released a new Magic set, the second set in a world of dinosaurs, mermaids, pirates, and vampire conquistadors. Naturally J and D want to participate in as many of the "prerelease" events as possible. They had to miss the Friday evening one due to my birthday, and D had to miss the first Saturday event due to getting his Covid booster, but J did both Saturday events, and D did the evening event, before the fever and chills and headache set in. Then yesterday, J and DG played in the "two-headed giant" event, a format with two players on a team. The event went so long that we didn't get to have my birthday celebration until 7 pm - dinner with DG and AA at our neighborhood Mexican restaurant. (Fun!) Today they left work early for a 4 pm meal before this evening's 5 pm prerelease, and D wanted to join them but had a work meeting that didn't end until 4:52 pm, so instead of joining them for food I stayed home and drove D downtown when his meeting had ended. J might play tomorrow evening too (the final prerelease tournament) if his thumb injury from last week's sword class precludes attending this week's sword classes.
After I drove downtown, I went to the symphony happy hour, which is at a new and less convenient location. I arrived late because of the timing of D's work meeting and didn't get to hear Francesco's talk, but I came in third in the trivia contest anyway (and their staff kept mentioning that the "trivia champion" was there, ha!). Afterwards I bought some birthday or Christmas gifts for J's nephew then headed home, where I attended a class about Haydn on Zoom.
That was a lot of walking downtown - I'm glad for the break in the rain!
