Jan. 16th, 2025 11:50 pmI have two NBC dramas I watch on TV - Brilliant Minds, a medical drama that started this fall, and The Irrational, a crime drama that started last year, where the crimes are solved by a team headed by a psychology professor. They're both unusually inclusive shows - the main character in Brilliant Minds is gay, his best friend is Black, and he and his interns have various psychological issues that complicate their lives. The Irrational has a nearly all-Black-or-Asian cast, and you can generally predict whodunnit by looking for an older white guy. I was quite surprised, however, when watching this week's episode of The Irrational tonight - I realized that one of the guest characters was non-binary, played by a non-binary actor, and just matter of factly, too, with no one drawing attention to it. I had never seen such a thing, and it hadn't even occurred to me that TV was behind the times on this.
