Day 822: Improvements! and a cat birthday

I had to get up "early" today to pay the yardwork crew after they'd finished up at J's, because J. had to go to Corvallis on an errand with DG. I passed the time by reading the first nine pages of Harry Potter in French, looking up the words I didn't know on my phone, and listening to Mozart on the phone at the same time. (I'd thought about going to see Mozart performed at the Bach Festival later today but didn't get around to it in time.) Anyway, they cleaned up the borders of J's main flowerbed (and it's good that we waited this long, because the desirable plants were way more obvious than they'd been a few weeks ago). They also put some moderately thick plastic, and then gravel, down on both sides of J's driveway, where previously it had been all green with weeds. I wish I'd photographed the "before," because it's a remarkable difference.

Happy third birthday to Ginevra, Jean-Luc, and Geordi! This evening we watched the Saturday night anime with two cats on our laps apiece.
