Day 782: Two parties!
May. 8th, 2022 11:56 pmToday at 4 pm we went to a small birthday party for the daughter of our friends JC and MSC, who turned one today! DG and AA were also there. The cat, Ellie, whom I have met before but haven't much interacted with, was not pleased with me. My stuff smells too much of other cats, I am sure. Their family will be with us another year so, and if the university offers MSC a tenure-track position, maybe they'll be here indefinitely. We were there from 4 pm until 7:17 pm, chatting and eating and enjoying the baby, when we abruptly noticed the time and needed to rush home to celebrate Mother's Day with D, whose work day ended soon after 7 pm.
I'd wanted to get Mother's Day dinner delivered from Pastini's, which has nice lasagna, but when we looked on GrubHub it said they were closed today. So we switched to our backup plan, the Thai restaurant down the hill from us. It took them nearly 10 minutes to answer the phone, and they said that delivery would be 45 minutes to an hour, so it was a delightful surprise when the food arrived 20 minutes later. I got a present, too, a necklace from D. with pretty colors.
After dinner, I finally taught D. some basic sewing skills, as he had a jacket to mend after removing the tag. This project had waited for... five or six months? But I decided since his time was at my disposal today, that would be our project. He didn't quite get how to make a knot at the end of the thread, but he did fine at the stitching and securing the thread to finish.
And we all chatted a while, and watched som people play a game on Twitch, then D. agreed to try the co-op version of our Spire with Friends game, so that was fun, but the game did take two and a half hours.
I am still waiting to feel better. The Internet suggests "vestibular neuritis." Any day now!
