Today (after I’d waited more than four hours – that is, they gave me a four-hour interval and it was even after that) the plumber came to fix my problem, and in the process he also eliminated the toilet gurgling sound I’ve lived with for many, many years. It’s hard to believe how much quieter it is now! The next time it rains, I’m going to enjoy listening to it while lying in bed.

The plumber was a nice guy, and I have to trust that he’s not infected. He kept his mask on and generally was at a good distance. We’re going to have him fix J’s plumbing problem too, I hope.

After that, I could finally leave the house. I was surprised that it had become fairly foggy! (The fog cleared by late evening; Sirius is again in the night sky by midnight-ish.) I quickly drove downtown to return a few library books that were due and got home in time for the symphony watch party.

Our conductor, Francesco Lecce-Chong, has held online “watch parties” every week since the pandemic started. Actually it was four days a week for a while! He seems quite happy to be doing them, and I’ve been a “regular” since the beginning, such that he definitely knows my name at this point. (There are maybe 8-12 regulars altogether, at most, including his mom.) He streams them on Facebook and YouTube, so we interact by leaving comments, which he reads at the beginning of the event to say hello and then later to see if we have questions or feedback on the week's topic. It's nicer than dressing up for a Zoom event.

Two weeks ago, though, after his other orchestra finally got to have their first concert of the season, in Santa Rosa (California – it’s in the wine country north of San Francisco), he unexpectedly took a week off, needing a break. I was a bit concerned that he’d gotten burnt out on our weekly event. But no, he was back last week and told us about the newly announced concert plans for Eugene, then he mentioned that this week he’d have Chloe on with him and they’d share some nature-related music. We’ve seen Chloe many times in the past; she’s his fiancée and a harpist.

So tonight, there they were, Francesco and Chloe – and they made a big announcement. Two weeks ago, when he’d taken some time off, they’d gotten married!! They’d been planning a big wedding for two years but had to postpone it, and they finally decided, no more waiting. Such a fun surprise! They showed us their rings, and they’d brought champagne for a toast. They’re also planning to get a dog, some months in the future, who will be the Thursday night event’s mascot.
