We went on a bit of an adventure tonight, trying to find the new comet. According to our local news, it would be visible around 9:30-10:30 pm, in the northwest, so I talked J. into going with me to look. We didn't go to the reservoir, which would have made the most sense; instead we tried the hill above Temple Beth Israel. Perhaps we could have seen it from there, but there was a thin band of clouds low in the sky - the only clouds in the sky - and so low that we couldn't see them from our house. At any rate, I have since learned that the observation that the comet is currently in the constellation Lynx is misleading - it's closer to the horizon than that. Having looked at its actual location, I can say that it's much "lower." A line from Pollux to Castor and continuing north, almost to Auriga, would find it. It'll keep moving "up" and become more obvious, though. Meanwhile, some evening soon I'll go see if the school where I look for wildflowers has enough of a view in the right direction. (The hills all around our neighborhood might preclude it.)

Other things about today: J. and I went on a walk to the west, in the warm part of the day, so we went slowly. (It was 83 degrees F). After that I watched an online recital by our symphony conductor's fiancée, the harpist Chloe Tula. I made some progress on the outline for my paper. I decided it was time to start watering my lawn for the summer, but the street section of the lawn was covered with tall grass and daisies (now a bit brown), so I had to mow it first. Then I did some more work while J. played Rolemaster with his friends online.
