Day 113: Murderbot book completed
Jul. 5th, 2020 11:56 pmYay, today I completed Murderbot #5, Network Effect. Now I wish I owned the four novellas preceding it; I want to read them again. This one's a full-length novel. (The next one will be out in April!)
This time I was more comfortable with "it" as the pronoun for our protagonist, as this time there were actually four characters for whom "it" was more appropriate (or more preferred) than "they" or a gendered pronoun. Interestingly, when reading the first four books, I kept generally thinking of our narrator as female, probably because I'm female and the author is too, and the character certainly wasn't male. J, on the other hand, kept generally thinking of our narrator as male, perhaps because he is male and wasn't much conscious of the author's gender, and the character certainly wasn't female.
In either case, our narrator has a very interesting perspective, and I'm glad it has others in its life who care for its well-being and who are generally kind. I also adore its way of coping with stress.
