Happy Fourth

This year, first the plan was to do only fireworks, in our usual neighborhood street location between TS's house and KS's house, and not our full potluck dinner. We were all to bring our own chairs and sit socially distanced, and also to bring our own fireworks (just the ground kind, of course). Then KS got her fun new puppy a week early, so fireworks were cancelled so as not to upset him. This seemed reasonable to me! I went by TS's house in the afternoon to check in about it, and got to meet their visitors, JS's cousin Marit and her partner Curtis, who were visiting from New York. They'd flown to San Francisco and were heading north. Today they started from Crater Lake, drove all the way to Eugene, and visited with the family there in their front yard (socially distanced), then were heading to the coast for the night.

Then KS decided her puppy probably didn't mind fireworks all that much after all, so fireworks were back on! We headed over there around 8:30 pm and got to meet the puppy, who is a Bernese - he looks like a little bear and is very soft and very cute and very big. It turned out that the stores were out of fireworks, though, so when it got dark we just watched what the neighbors were doing, and S. lit the "Mad Trolls" firework I'd brought, which was very fancy. Mosquitos were bothering J, so we went home, but the moon was full and I wanted to see if there were any aerial ones, so I walked up to the school (the place shown in my 1000 steps to the south) and sat on the lawn and waited. Although aerial fireworks that aren't officially authorized are now even more illegal than previously, I got to see some, which was great! The last one was particularly gorgeous, a big ball with green and pink and sparkles.

Earlier we'd watched some One Piece stuff in the FunimationCon stream, and then grilled burgers. Later we watched four episodes of a very girl-centric anime called We Never Learn.
