Ruha Benjamin
Feb. 4th, 2020 11:51 pmThis evening I went to a Humanities Center talk by Princeton professor Ruha Benjamin, who had some interesting but rather disjointed things to say about ways that technology inadvertently perpetuates racism. Although I was glad to know what she had to tell us, I found myself wishing I hadn't gone, as the sound quality was painful. Other people using the microphone didn't have the same effect, so I have to wonder if it was a combination of the higher pitch of her voice and her natural lecturing style. Maybe she's not used to being amplified?
Later in the evening, we sat in the hot tub for the first time - wow, I guess it was the first time in over a year? The patter of soft rain on the canvas awning overhead was quite soothing.
