This fun science fiction novel by a local author (who helped D. with his 8th grade mentorship project) was the perfect light read when I decided to take a break from the unrelenting nuclear/genocidal disasters of the last book in that Charles Stross series. In this book, humans have left Earth behind after using technology to elevate other species to sentience. Kipper, a cat whose sister is running for office on the platform of overcoming oppression by the dogs, heads to Ecuador in a quest to find the sister, who's gone missing, and in the belief that Ecuador is a promised cat utopia. It's not - it's just the base of the otters' space elevator, where Kipper has more adventures. Now I can reread the next book in the series and then finally finish the trilogy.
