Delgani concert
Nov. 7th, 2017 11:50 pmTonight opened season three for the local string quartet of which I am a fan. This time they played the first Hovhaness string quartet, a commissioned quartet by Ben Krause, and the "American Quartet" by Dvořák. I'd heard previews of the second and third pieces a couple of weeks ago, as I noted; the Dvořák piece is especially catchy. I was delightfully surprised by the Hovhaness piece, though - pretty much everything of his I'd heard before seemed kind of vague and fluffy, but this was substantial and beautiful.
During the intermission I chatted with a violinist I know, JF, who introduced me to her mother. Afterwards I chatted with the woman I'd met at that preview event, and also her husband, and then a fellow I know from work and his wife. The refreshments were quite tasty - I especially liked the smoked trout and horseradish crostini.
Meanwhile, D. and his girlfriend were taking his dad out for a birthday dinner at P.F. Chang's, and J. was looking through his Magic cards to find the ones they'll need for the Grand Prix in a week and a half. I've got a cold but it's pretty trivial so far.
