A day "out"
Sep. 24th, 2017 11:56 pmJ. spent the day today at the game store, playing in Ixalan prerelease events. D. set forth with his girlfriend to go see IT at the mall across the river. I decided not only to attend a clarinet-oboe-piano-etc. concert by a local clarinetist-composer, his wife, and their accompanist, but also to drop by the Bijou later to see Viceroy's House. The audience was just me and four couples rather older than me. I was hoping for insights into Edwina Mountbatten's relationship with Nehru, but they only hinted at it - the movie (quite well done) was a straightforward accounting of the months leading up to the Partition, plus the ensuing tragedy, with a cheesy love story tacked on that still had me teary.
Meanwhile, D. didn't get to see IT after all, as he'd removed the photocopy of his birth certificate from his wallet after returning from Florida and had no way to prove he was 17. Afterwards he realized he should have been more assertive and asked to see the manager, who maybe could have called one of us. I think they'll try again next week; meanwhile they decided not to waste the bus trip by shopping for clothes.
