That parental roller-coaster thing

So now D. has officially requested next year's classes... without band. They have a 5-period school day, and next year band is going to be part of the regular day rather than zero period before school, so if he takes band he can't take other electives. I'm enthusiastic about his interest in the new music technology class, and I empathize with not wanting to be in band for 70 minutes a day, but the Youth Symphony has a requirement that all of its students must be enrolled in their school's band class, unless they're home-schooled or get the band director's permission.

So he'll keep taking clarinet lessons, but no Youth Symphony? So bummed.
