Parental roller-coaster

Yesterday and the day before I was so excited about D's clarinet achievement, and now I am so stressed about his problems with calculus. He fell behind in early January when he was sick, and although J. has worked with him, at this point he's in serious danger of not passing the class (and thereby screwing up his college scholarship, which has a GPA requirement that he's otherwise doing fine with). My thought was that he could just drop the class since he doesn't even need to be in it, but tonight at book club I checked with our hostess's husband, who is a math teacher in the same department, and he says nope. D. has been balking at the idea of working with a tutor, but he may not have any good alternatives, and with the term ending in a few weeks... *sigh*
